Letter from the Chairman

Letter from the Chairman:

The saying "time flies when you're having fun" could not be more true with respect to the 2010-2011 SPE general meeting year...unless, of course, you add in "and when you're crazy busy!" We are winding down the 2010-11 SPE Evangeline Section year with our final two meetings. First, our final general meeting will be held Tuesday May 10th and will feature SPE Distinguished Lecturer Dr. Max Wang with Sharp-Rock Technologies, Inc. Dr. Wang will present "Preventive Wellbore Strengthening - LCM or Casing". The last SPE Study Group meeting is being offered for our colleagues with Professional Engineering licenses. Mr. Tom Marcotte with Chevron will teach "Ethics in Engineering Practice" on Thursday May 19th. See our website for details on registration for both meetings.

Congratulations to all of you! I am very excited to see what this next year brings with this mix of our seasoned veterans and fresh faces.

I would like to thank those of you who participated in our spring events, namely the golf tournament and crawfish boil. The weather cooperated nicely for both occasions, and each event was very well attended. With the help of Zack Carlisle and the Activities Committee, our numerous volunteers, sponsors, and participants, we raised roughly $14,000 for the Section along with additional monies for the SPE Auxiliary and Student Sections. These funds go a long way to support our many programs within the section, especially our scholarship funding. A special thanks to CE Oil Tools for sponsoring the crawfish once again this year. We could not have had the profit that we did without your generosity.

To wrap up my final Letter from the Chairman, I would like to thank all of you for making this year as your Chairman a very rewarding experience. Thanks to all of our board members and supporters who volunteer their time for the benefit of our petroleum engineering profession. I know that Zack and the new board will do great things in the coming year, so please give them the support that you gave me this year.

Have a great summer!

Rich Davis
2010-2011 Evangeline Section Chairman
