Grants

For the 2010-2011 Science Award Grants, a reception was held November 10 , 2010 at the Petroleum Club with a total of 27 SPE members and school representatives present. Mike Welborn, Committee Chairperson,  welcomed and congratulated all. 

After giving a brief history of the science grants, Mike Welborn introduced SPE members including SPE Chairperson -  Rich Davis, Treasurer - Earl Champagne, Science Grant committee members:  Ben Bienvenu, David Laperouse, Karen Lestelle and Kim Hitt, and SPE members John Lee and Sid Breaux.   Karen Lestelle introduced Ms. Katy Landry, Science Coordinator with the Lafayette Parish School Board.

Mike announced adjustments to the program this year included limiting funds to public schools, the request for schools to incorporate petroleum industry awareness in the classroom and continuous expansion to the surrounding parishes..

The recipients were asked to come forward to receive their award/check as each school was announced. They were asked to introduce themselves by sharing their name, title, parish and a brief synopsis of their school's project. All participants shared their projects and thanked us very much. Ideas included new lab equipment, virtual labs, field trips, and more.
