Grants2007-2008 School Science Grants Award Ceremony For the 2007-2008 Science Award Grants, a reception was held January 30, 2008 at the Petroleum Club with a total of 46 SPE members and school representatives present. Kim Hitt welcomed and congratulated all. She introduced one special guest - the Lafayette School Board Superintendent - Mr. Burnell Lemoine. After giving a brief history of the science grants, Kim introduced SPE members including SPE Chair Lee Coulon, Treasurer Zack Carlisle, 1st Vice Chair Waldo Borel, Science Grant Co-Chair Karen Lestelle, Board member Dr. Ali Ghalambar and SPE members John Lee and Sid Breaux. Kim announced adjustments to the program this year included limiting funds to public schools, the request for schools to incorporate petroleum industry awareness in the classroom and continuous expansion to the surrounding parishes of St. Landry and St. Martin. The recipients were asked to come forward to receive their award/check as each school was announced. They were asked to introduce themselves by sharing their name, title, parish and a brief synopsis of their school's project. All participants shared their projects and thanked us very much. Ideas included new lab equipment, virtual labs, field trips, and more. Science Grant Winners |
