Giving Back

On Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) held December's General Membership Meeting at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette. Along with the regular members of SPE, four very special guests were present. They were representatives of local charitable organizations - The Healing House, Cite des Arts, Lafayette Education Foundation and Acadiana Youth. In September, when the Board of Directors for SPE were reviewing the budget of the previous year and making financial decisions about the upcoming year, they realized that the fund-raising events for the previous two years were very successful, therefore, allowing a tone time, $10,000 donation to be made to locally based charities. Each representative accepted a donation of $2,500 on behalf of their charities. "On behalf of SPE, it was a great honor to be able to give these donations to four worthy charities. It also seemed like such an appropriate time, with Christmas just around the corner", said Lee Coulon, SPE-Evangeline Section Chairman.

Coulon, with SPE, presented a check to Heather Blanchard with The Healing House.

Maxwell Burch, Chairman of the University of Louisiana's SPE Student Chapter presented a check to Maureen Brennan with Cite des Arts.

Babaji Churitti with The Young Professionals group of SPE presented a check to Tina Broussard with Lafayette Education Foundation.

Mickey Babin, Chairman of the SPE Ladies Auxiliary presented a check to Carlee Alm-LaBar with Acadiana Youth.
