Abstract
Almost every person in the upstream oil and gas industry, sooner or later, will interact with a bond log. However, reading bond logs can be challenging and confusing to many professionals, therefore the value of bond logging is often dismissed.
This presentation, to the contrary, argues that the cement bond log is extremely important, and if interpreted accurately, can help prevent disastrous operational and economical outcomes. Basics of current bond logging tools are reviewed, along with a five-step method of interpretation that helps to remove the confusion. Examples from all over the world are presented, which highlight the value of the bond log in establishing safe and high-quality wells that are properly sealed.
